Education

Program Structure

The College offers full-time and part-time hospitality and tourism management, specialization, and professional skills training programs that aim to meet the needs of students seeking higher professional education and working adults who require professional skills training and certification. The contents and rationale of the programs are determined jointly by the College and industry representatives. The College seeks to realize its mission by delivering relevant programs that meet the increasing demand for professionals in the hospitality and tourism industry worldwide by:

• Pursuing excellence and creating optimum conditions for effective learning;

• Using a variety of training methods and learning activities that encourage teamwork to ensure future success and career development;

• Establishing links with local and international hospitality and tourism organizations.

International Education and Holistic Approach

Suriname, with its multi-ethnic, multilingual and multi-cultural population, has all the ingredients to be an ideal environment for international education. In accordance with our mission statement we provide professional education and training and promote lifelong learning. The College prepares students to function effectively in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world by providing educational programs with international content while responding to local requirements and interests, developing the students’ critical thinking skills, communicating in multiple languages, and fostering intercultural understanding.

Academic Partnerships

We entered into educational partnership agreements with the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) and the American Hospitality Academy (AHA) to keep abreast of the innovations and the increasing and changing customer demand in this highly competitive industry.

The AHLEI has provided us with up-to-date internationally recognized management, business and professional skills training certificate courses for more than a decade.

The AHA provides online management and development certificate courses, and international internships and student exchange programs to the College.

On-line and Blended Learning

We offer programs using the traditional classroom learning format as well as online and blended learning to keep pace with the innovations in education and to offer working students the opportunity to further their education, because the amount of scheduled class time and commuting time is decreased. As face-to-face and online communication between learners and educators are combined and the lectures and discussions are extended beyond the classroom, the social dynamic sense of connection among students and faculty is retained.

Experiential Learning

In addition to classroom-delivered skills training, our degree programs include meetings and special events, social and research projects, local and international field trips, and internships. Our students help create new tourism products and foster intercultural understanding and team building by organizing meetings, festivals and other special events initiated by the College. This field experience exposes the students to the practical aspects of business and enables them to enhance their academic and practical experience and increase their research capabilities, which contributes to their personal and social growth and ensures future success and career development.
